Normal installation and loading externals with deken<\/h1>\n

For installing externals using “deken” on Mac OSX, I was bit confused and finally found how to fix it.
\nI tested\u00a0on \u00a0both OSX Yosemite10.10.5 and El Capitan 10.11.4 and they work fine, now.<\/p>\n

  1. Download Pd vanilla 0.47.0 from Dr.\u00a0Miller Puckette web<\/a>. “deken” is included from\u00a0this version of Pd vanilla.<\/li>\n
  2. Click Help menu – Find externals(This is deken’s function).<\/li>\n
  3. To install externals, input “cyclone” or “zexy” in the box for example and\u00a0click [search] button.<\/li>\n
  4. Select non-half transparent link including “(Darwin-i386-32)”, compressed files.<\/li>\n
  5. Select the folder to be downloaded. Basically just follow as Pd suggested. Somehow, the destination folder might be\u00a0different\u00a0between\u00a0OS or machines(?), such as ~\/Users\/xxx\/Library\/Pd\/ \u00a0or \u00a0~\/Application\/Pd-0.47.0\/Contents\/Resources\/extra\/. (I can’t figure out the reason why these are\u00a0happened.)<\/li>\n
  6. Then downloading and decompressing externals are executed.<\/li>\n
  7. Restart Pd and you can use those externals without any\u00a0declarations.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Is Gem imported by\u00a0deken?<\/h1>\n

    #20.5.2016 Gem 0.93.3 via deken is updated to official Gem by IOhannes Zmoelnig<\/a> and it \u00a0works now. I revise the following.<\/span><\/p>\n

    To conclude, Gem that is installed by only deken doesn’t \u00a0work properly under my environment, Mac OSX running on Macbook Air or Pro or iMac.<\/del><\/p>\n

    You would restart Pd and face to\u00a0<\/span>Gem Externals are missed even installing by deken is finished without errors. This means\u00a0Gem externals are not loaded. You need to load Gem-lib.<\/p>\n

    1. Using deken, click Help menu – Find externals.\u00a0Install “libdir” at first. (This libdir is working for Pd vanilla instead of “~.dylib”s in “lib” folder of Pd-extended.)<\/li>\n
    2. Install Gem via deken.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. It is necessary\u00a0to download Gem 0.93.3 from IEM Gem web<\/a>\u00a0directly, decompressed and replace it in the path of Pd vanilla.<\/del><\/li>\n
    4. Inside this Gem-0.93.3 folder, there are folders\u00a0Gem, pix_drum, pix_fiducialtrack, pix_mano. Copy all of them into the folder where “deken” suggested. Such as ~\/Users\/xxx\/Library\/Pd\/ or\u00a0~\/Application\/Pd-0.47.0\/Contents\/Resources\/extra\/<\/del><\/li>\n
    5. Click Pd menu- Preferences – Startup. This is for loading libraries, libdir, Gem, pmpd.<\/li>\n
    6. startup flags:-lib libdir<\/span><\/li>\n
    7. After pressing [new]button, write “libdir<\/span>” and [ok] button.<\/li>\n
    8. After pressing [new]button, write “Gem<\/span>” and\u00a0click [ok] button. Orders are important. “Gem”<\/span> should be the top and\u00a0“libdir” follows.<\/li>\n
    9. Restart Pd then here you are! You can use\u00a0Gem 0.93.3.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Somehow warnings telling Gem are duplicated come up\u00a0after several times restarting Pd. Weird. I don’t have any ideas to fix it yet.<\/del><\/p>\n

      #added on 21.5.2016<\/span><\/p>\n

      If you have warnings\u00a0of duplicated Gem, just delete the path of Gem from “Preferences – Path” and restart Pd. Then warnings would be\u00a0gone and Gem\u00a0works fine.<\/p>\n

      Once Gem is set in “Preferences – Startup”, the\u00a0path in “Preferences – Path” is automatically made. You shouldn’t add it manually.<\/p>\n

      How to load Pmpd?<\/h1>\n

      “pmpd” library works with\u00a0Gem therefore you need to some procedures\u00a0for loading pmpd otherwise you would have \u00a0warnings\u00a0of both Gem and pmpd duplicated.<\/p>\n

      1. Download “pmpd” via deken.<\/li>\n
      2. Set pmpd in\u00a0“Preferences – Startup”. The order is important. It is after “libdir” loaded.<\/li>\n
      3. Restart Pd then you can use Gem and pmpd.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Pd vanilla is the on-going project so that I hope that Gem also become easy to handle someday. This procedure is just a bridge until then.
